The main function of East Court School is to help and educate dyslexic children. We enable our children to develop their personal potential and re-enter the education system as equals.
Both the Principals are child psychologists as well as teachers, with outstanding expertise in the field of dyslexia. Their book on teaching dyslexics, 'Dyslexia: a Teaching Handbook' (Whurr) has become a standard reference text for teachers.
There is a high level of educational input by specialist teachers. The dyslexic child at East Court has a full programme of lessons, all of which are tailored to his or her educational needs. There is a high staff/pupil ratio, all class sizes are small and regular one-to-one personal tutorials are also given. The school enables the child to make a successful re-entry into the mainstream educational system. The child is given the skills to enter an appropriate secondary school, no longer dramatically handicapped by being dyslexic.
The school is small, child-centred and friendly, with a family atmosphere. The children are fed generously and well on an excellent, wholefood diet and get lots of exercise. The school is housed in a listed building overlooking the English Channel, with close proximity to parks and harbour and the small town of Ramsgate. We are 1.5-2 hours from London and close to the Channel connections for Europe.
